Last year we had a land line and every time either i was in the shower or just indisposed ,the bloody phone would ring . Ever try and hurry up wash your hands and by the time you get to pick up the phone it stops! Yes. That.
Then you just stand there hoping that person will call again ?! Waiting....... Waiting.........
You end up calling a friend thinking that they may have just rang you . They didn't *sigh*
Then Dinner time starts at 5:30pm when you are peppering food for the hungry tribe you call the family!
So you stop what you are doing hands covered in whatever and all slippery and say"Hello"
Then all of a sudden the person at the other end says . "Hello Mrs xxx and How are we today?
Then it clicks ~ Um well i am trying to cook dinner (stupid telemarketers) they always know when to call right on dinner time!!!
I once made a list of things to get at them and left it near the phone.
Sometimes depending on the mood i was in.... I would be happy to answer the silly questions on what ever...
Once they said in an accent "How are you today madame ~ i was a little insulted the only person i ever called madame was my dance teacher when i was young. I don't run a brothel sir/mam OK.
Then one time they said Do you have 10 Min's to complete a survey to win something i used to say only if it is really worth my time and what was the prize lol....
Sometimes i miss those telemarketers i was on the "Do not call register" But that never stopped them. I used to get called every day at 5pm -6 or even after school pick up 3pm -4pm .
For a full twelve months it's been peaceful no interruptions while i make dinner.
We all have our mobiles so i said "why do we even need a land line really" Waste of money as well as paying the rental fee for the phone line of like $23.95 when it was hardly being used!

OK So come enlighten me tell me your hilarious stories about "What you do / did when you get that call"!

Yes!! What is with telemarketers calling when we're on the 'do not call register'. Since being a SAHM, I can't believe how many calls come in through the day. I don't have any funny stories, they just have to be lucky enough to get me when I'm having a good day but the most frustrating thing I get are door to door marketers. I couldnt' believe one selling foxtel knocking on my door at 5.30pm!! Dinner & bathtime!!
ReplyDeleteOh, telemarketers drive me bonkers! We just screen our calls now. Everyone has to get past our gatekeeper - the answering machine...ha!
ReplyDeleteWhen my son, now age 10, was about 3, he loved talking on the phone. So, I used to hand the phone to him when telemarketers called - especially when they asked to speak to "the man of the house"!!!
ReplyDeleteNo surer way to get an unsolicited call than to have just put the kids down for their afternoon nap. Drives me insane. We live in the middle of nowhere and the only reason I keep the homeline is in case of emergency. We don't get consistent enough mobile reception to count on it if one of us needed an ambulance.
ReplyDeleteAs for what to say when they call. If the kids are awake, I'm happy for them to deal with the unwanted callers. They're 3 and 1 so ever eager to talk on the phone, but good luck to anyone trying to make a sale!
My sister puts my 3 year old nephew onto the phone when telemarketers call!
