“Oow!” is the word she uttered when she dropped her toys or
food. Her “Oows” have always been labelled adorable since the moment she started
speaking. But that cute “Oow” gave me an insight to her anxiety when she turned
four. Oow was often followed with a frown and worried look on her face. She
would say, “Oow Mama, I’m scared, what if and what if and what if....”
Her worries started to hold her back from playing with other
kids, attending or participating in group activities. Her worries sometimes
frustrate her and myself as we burst into tears and anger. Her worries worry
me. I want her to be the happiest, kindest and sweetest little girl. I want to
be happy too. No mother can stay sane if their child gets upset all the time.
Emotions affect behaviour. Hers and mine.
As I went into meditation to find inner peace, it struck me
that this could be the tool for my daughter to calm down and free her from
anger, frustration and worries. I then found out about Kids Balance program, mindfulness
and relaxation program for kids. A program where children are given tools to be
more in tune with their body and mind, tools to relax and calm down. The
concept is pure and simple, yet powerful and enriching.
Using simple breathing exercises, muscle relaxations, mindful movements, and confidence boosting affirmations, children can learn to pause and feel better about themselves. The workshop is infused with practices and games to engage various senses to enhance their daily experience.
I thought the program is engaging and can easily be applied to
daily routines at home.
How wonderful it would be that my growing child can learn
about self-control and enhance qualities of kindness, patience, compassion and
confidence. It stirs thoughts in my head how I too can benefit from this
experience. It seems to me that we adults, constantly battling to achieve
balance in our own lives. Perhaps this mindful journey could be the start of
the happiest, kindest and sweetest child I hope she can be!

Wish they had a program like that here! It sounds great.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you've found this group for your daughter. I've meditated daily for thirty years and know the benefits. I snatch about thirty minutes in the morning before anyone else is awake. I hope your daughter is able to achieve peace.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds great! There's nothing like this locally!
ReplyDeleteTried to leave you one about how you were never to young to start! Hope this now reaches you!
